CYPW (Children and Young Peoples Workforce) Level 2 Apprenticeship

Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Children and Young People's Workforce (Childcare)

This qualification is for individuals who are working in Early Learning and Childcare such as nurseries, pre-schools and crèches.  You must be providing care for young children and will be working under supervision.    This qualification will develop knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare.  It will also confirm competence under supervision in these areas and serves as a progression to level 3 for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector. 

 

The course is primarily delivered in the workplace with on and off the job guided learning.     

 

To be eligible for the apprenticeship you must:

  • be employed in childcare
  • be 16 years of age or more
  • hold a valid national insurance number
  • have lived in the UK or EU for the last 3 years
  • have a paid contract of employment and work 16 hours a week or more
  • not hold any qualification at level 4 or above

 

Duration:  12 months

 

Framework Details: Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce, Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights for the Health, Social Care and Children and Young People's Settings, Functional Skills at Level 1 (English, Mathematics and ICT) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. 

 

The Level 2 Certificate is made up of 13 Mandatory Units Group A (31 credits) and a selection of Optional Units Group B (totalling 4 credits from the remaining 16 units).

 

Delivery:  The competency and knowledge qualification is achieved through an assessed portfolio (paper or electronic) of evidence.  Other components are achieved through paper and online tests.

    • Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
    • Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People
    • Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People
    • Paediatric Emergency First Aid
    • Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    • Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People’s Settings
    • Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    • Child and Young Person Development
    • Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
    • Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People
    • Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour
