CYPW (Children and Young Peoples Workforce) Level 3 Apprenticeship

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Children and Young People's Workforce (Childcare)

This qualification is for individuals who are working in Early Learning and Childcare such as nurseries, pre-schools and crèches.  You must be providing care for young children and could be working on your own or supervising others.  This qualification will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare.  It will also confirm competence in these areas and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector. 


The course is primarily delivered in the workplace with on and off the job guided learning.     


To be eligible for the apprenticeship you must:

  • have prior experience in childcare
  • be 19 years of age or more
  • hold a valid national insurance number
  • have lived in the UK or EU for the last 3 years
  • have a paid contract of employment and work 16 hours a week or more
  • not hold any qualification at level 4 or above


Duration:  15 to 18 months


Framework Details: Level 3 Diploma for the Children                       and Young People's Workforce, Level 2 Award in                                      Employment Responsibilities and Rights for the Health, Social Care and Children and Young People's Settings, Functional Skills at Level 2 (English, Mathematics and ICT) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. 


The Level 3 Diploma is made up of 11 Mandatory Units Group A (27 credits), 5 Mandatory Units Group B in the Early Learning and Childcare pathway (22 credits) and a selection of Optional Units Group E (totalling 16 credits from the remaining 55 units).


Delivery:  The competency and knowledge qualification is achieved through an assessed portfolio (paper or electronic) of evidence.  Other components are achieved through paper and online tests.

    • Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    • Understand Child and Young Person Development
    • Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
    • Understand How to Support Positive Outcomes for Children and Young People
    • Understand How to Support Positive Outcomes for Children and Young People

"We work closely with our Employers remaining as flexible as possible to ensure we meet the needs of the Employer as well as that of our Apprentices and Learners. The majority of our courses are delivered in the workplace in the form of blended learning packages and one to one training with the use of e-portfolios. However some Apprenticeships have drop in sessions provided for the Technical element and Functional Skills should the Apprentice/Learner want or require additional support. "
